OpenAI files for IPO: What You Need To Know
This more spicy than any Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episodes I’ve been watching lately.
So, OpenAI saw that SpaceX and Antrropic (Claude’s parent company) filed for an IPO with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the SEC) and thought “wait… I have FOMO”.
“We expect it to leak”
It’s a little funny how OpenAI went about the announcement, stating
We recently submitted a confidential S-1. We expect it to leak so we’re just announcing it. We have not decided on timing yet; it may be a while because there are things we want to do that are likely easier as a private company. But it’s a complicated set of tradeoffs and this gives us the option to go public sooner if that ends up being best.
They basically decided that, given the strong interest, it would be better if the announcement came from them, than from an unreliable leak.
What we know so far: IPO in Q4 202
OpenAI has now filed with the SEC to officially IPO.
In simple terms, all companies that want to go from private companies to public companies need to submit their financials to regulators, though these documents aren’t available publicly.
When do sources believe the IPO will go live? And should you prepare to invest?
